Agroforestry & Ecosystem Restoration
Seedlings for afforestation, reforestation and medicinal planting. More than 600 indigenous trees planted and maintained since 2018, protecting the area’s last remaining forest.
Biochar & Bio-fertilizer R&D
Turning agricultural residues into biochar, charged bio-fertilizer and clean-burning briquettes, linking farmers to soil health and carbon markets, with SINTEF Energi.
Regenerative Agriculture
Integrated dairy, poultry, crop and coffee production on agroecological principles, using legume ground cover, integrated pest management and no harmful herbicides.
Agritourism, Recreation & Learning
Farm and forest walks, camping and guesthouse stays where visitors experience how agriculture, nature and conservation interlink, and every visit teaches something.
A living laboratory
Forest, lakeshore, nursery, working farm and biochar production on one site, with on-site accommodation for field teams, established community relationships, and more than a decade of records and species inventories.
SINTEF Energi (Trondheim, Norway), a NOREC-supported exchange project on biochar and bioenergy. The relationship began in 2025, and on-ground activities at the Kijiko site start in August 2026.
