Biochar for Agriculture & Bio-fuels R&D

We are building a sustainable biochar value chain in rural Uganda, transforming agricultural waste into high-performance energy and soil solutions. By processing sugarcane bagasse and other local residues through small-scale pyrolysis, we produce stable biochar — a renewable alternative to traditional charcoal that protects natural forests from further degradation.

Our research focuses on creating “charged” bio-fertilizer by blending biochar with high-nitrogen organic inputs such as abattoir waste and broiler chicken manure. The result is an activated soil amendment that delivers immediate nutrients while the biochar acts as a permanent carbon battery — retaining moisture and sequestering CO₂ for decades.

We also process biochar into high-density bio-briquettes for clean cooking and are optimizing classic cook stoves to burn these fuels with maximum efficiency and minimal emissions. By certifying the carbon stored in the soil, we aim to connect local farmers to voluntary carbon markets, creating a new and predictable source of income that strengthens rural livelihoods.
